The Hangar 9® J-3 Cub 10cc offers a classic and good-natured large model flying experience. It offers the advantages of a light and stable wooden construction and is available in both ARF and PNP versions.

Hangar 9 J-3 Cub 10cc PNP Introduction

With nearly 20,000 produced between 1938 and 1947, and over 5,000 still registered and in service today, the J-3 Cub remains one of the most influential and popular aircraft ever produced by Piper. It was originally designed as a light training aircraft, which also spawned truncated wing variants, and Super and Carbon Cub versions. The Hangar 9® J-3 Cub 10cc is a 1/5 scale replica of the original with good-natured flight characteristics and offers a classic look that sets it apart from other, more modern Cub models. The light, stiff and stable wooden construction is covered with UltraCote® film. It's also available in an ARF version where you can install your desired glow engine, gasoline or electric drive system. Or you can choose the time- and money-saving PNP version, which comes with four factory-installed servos, a 4S to 6S-compatible Spektrum Avian motor and a Smart ESC.

Hangar 9 J-3 Cub 10cc PNP Overview

The Hangar 9® J-3 Cub 10cc is a 2.1m replica of the iconic aircraft. It has been designed to combine the classic look of the original with modern features and equipment, including a two-piece wing and a socket in the fuselage for storage and transportation. The ARF version comes mostly factory assembled and allows you to install a .62 4-stroke glow engine, an 11cc 4-stroke gasoline engine and other similar class engines or an equivalent electric power system and your preferred electronics. The PNP version requires no adhesive for installation. It features four factory-installed Spektrum A6380 digital servos with metal gears, a 4S to 6S compatible Avian 4260 480Kv outrunner motor and a 70A Smart-Lite ESC that can provide a variety of propulsion system telemetry data with Smart and non-Smart batteries via compatible receivers and Spektrum AirWare-equipped transmitters.
Both versions include a prototypical chassis with standard wheels and Cub hubcaps. You also have the option of installing wheel fairings or floats with the special float strut kit (all sold separately). The airframe is made of balsa wood and lightweight plywood and is covered with UltraCote® film at the factory. A variety of prototypical details, including clear windows, wing struts, tension wires and more provide a classic Cub experience that's perfect for a wide range of intermediate to experienced pilots!

Features of the Hangar 9 J-3 Cub 10cc PNP

Skill Level 2 - Some experience required
Skill Level 2 aircraft like this are suitable for RC pilots who already have some experience and the skills to assemble, program and fly similar class models. You should have the experience and skills required to successfully fly models such as the E-flite Turbo Timber Evolution 1.5m, Turbo Timber SWS 2.0m, Carbon-Z Cessna 150T 2.1m, Carbon-Z Cub SS 2.1m or other similar class models before attempting to fly the J-3 Cub 10cc.

Smart technology
The J-3 Cub is equipped with an exclusive Spektrum Avian Smart Lite ESC that can provide a variety of real-time telemetry data to the propulsion system during flight, including motor RPM, current draw, battery voltage and more - with Smart and non-Smart batteries - via compatible receivers and Spektrum AirWare-equipped transmitters (including DX6e and 8e, DX6 G2/3 and 8 G2, DX9, NX6 to 20, iX12 to 20 and others).

Plug-N-Play version
This Plug-N-Play version (PNP) comes with a factory-installed drive system and servos ready to connect to the compatible receiver of your choice (sold separately). Plus, no glue is required for assembly, so you can get in the air as easily and quickly as possible!

Flexible performance
The factory-installed Spektrum Avian brushless outrunner motor is 4S to 6S compatible and offers a wide range of performance - from true-to-scale flying and basic aerobatics with 4S batteries using the included 15x10E propeller, to significantly more than scale flight performance using the included 14x7E propeller with 6S batteries! In addition, the practical, top-accessible and magnetically attached fuselage cover facilitates the installation of common and popular 3200-5000mAh batteries.

Wooden airframe
The balsa and plywood airframe is lightweight, yet rigid and strong. Best of all, the model comes mostly factory assembled and covered with UltraCote film. The PNP version also features durable, factory-installed Spektrum A6380 digital servos with metal gears. And in the unfortunate event that you damage parts or components of the airplane and can't repair them, a full line of replacement parts is available.

Easy assembly
The PNP version J-3 Cub 10cc comes with factory-installed power system and servos. No glue is required for final assembly, so the model is ready to fly within a few hours. The ARF version is mostly factory assembled and is ready to fly after typical final assembly and installation of the power system and electronics.

Prototypical features
A large upper fuselage lid with windshield, transparent windows and seats and a pilot's bust, together with wing struts, tailplane bracing and other details, contribute to the true-to-original appearance.

Landing gear options
A prototypical landing gear with rubber shock absorbers and standard wheels with Cub hubcaps are included. You can also add the optional DU-BRO Treaded Lightweight Cub Wheels or the optional wheel covers when flying off paved and other smooth surfaces. Or you can attach the optional silver-colored floats (sold separately) and special struts (sold separately) to fly from large ponds and lakes!
