The Decathlon is widely regarded as one of the best aerobatic trainers in man-carrying aviation! Its iconic design is based on the Aeronca Champ and Citabria, but has been updated with inverted fuel and oil systems and a nearly symmetrical wing profile to easily fly negative figures and inverted flight. The E-flite® Decathlon RJG 1.2m is an everyday replica of the Decathlon that RJ Gritter (RJG) flies. RJ has been a model airplane pilot for most of his life and began competing in national and international aerobatic competitions at the age of 16. His passion for RC aerobatics also led to a strong interest in man-carrying aerobatics. For the 2024 airshow season, RJ designed a new color scheme for his Decathlon and was also involved in the development of this unique E-flite model that allows for both relaxed sport flying and aggressive aerobatics! The model features LED landing and navigation lighting as well as a variety of scale details to provide an authentic flying experience. It is aimed at both advanced pilots who want to improve their aerobatic skills and experienced pilots who want to focus on aggressive aerobatics. All control surfaces are equipped with digital servos with metal gears, while the model is equipped with a 3S and 4S compatible power system with a 45A Spektrum Avian Smart Lite ESC. The BNF Basic version is also equipped with an AR631 receiver that provides real-time telemetry data as well as AS3X and SAFE Select technologies.

Overview

The E-flite Decathlon RJG 1.2m is one of the most powerful and handy models of the legendary aerobatic trainer! It is a replica of the Decathlon flown by RJ Gritter (RJG) at air shows in the USA and features a classic but modernized red, white and blue color scheme. Additionally, there are a variety of scale details such as functional LED landing and navigation lights, wheel shoes and wing struts. The one-piece wing is easy to assemble and disassemble thanks to self-closing servo connections and knurled screws. Although the model has a handy size when ready to fly and is easy to stow and transport, the struts can be engaged and disengaged without tools! Digital servos with metal gears and pushrods with ball heads ensure precise and reliable linkage for classic and aggressive aerobatics. The 3S and 4S compatible power system features a 45A Spektrum™ Avian™ Smart Lite ESC and the BNF® Basic version is equipped with an AR631 receiver that provides real-time telemetry data along with AS3X® and optional SAFE® Select, including thrust reverser. All these details and features add up to a very practical and high performance model that is a great choice for advanced and experienced pilots!

Exclusive technologies

The BNF® Basic version is equipped with the exclusive Spektrum™ AS3X® and SAFE® Select technologies. AS3X works behind the scenes to smooth out the effects of wind and turbulence and provide a "locked-in" feel that makes it feel like you're flying a much larger airplane. The optional SAFE Select offers bank angle limits as well as automatic self-leveling that can be turned on and off at the touch of a button to make flying easier! And if you don't want to activate the SAFE Select feature, bind the receiver normally and only AS3X is active.

Spektrum Smart Technology

This Decathlon RJG 1.2m is equipped with an exclusive Spektrum™ Avian™ Smart Lite ESC that provides a variety of real-time telemetry data from the propulsion system, including motor RPM, battery voltage and more with Smart and non-Smart batteries via compatible receivers and transmitters (including the AR631; in combination with Spektrum AirWare™ equipped transmitters including DX6e and 8e, DX6 G2/3 and 8 G2, DX9, NX6, 8 and 10, iX12, iX14 , iX20 and others).
It also has an optional reverse thruster function that offers special ground handling and other features!

Versatile performance

The factory-installed brushless power system features a 45A Spektrum™ Avian™ Smart Lite ESC and a custom-tuned motor that delivers plenty of thrust with a 3S 2200mAh LiPo battery. Combined with a 4S 3200mAh battery, even higher flight speeds and unlimited climb performance are possible without the need for modifications or upgrades.

Scale features

Functional LED landing and navigation lights, wing struts and wheel shoes are prototypical features that further enhance the experience with this model.

Like the original seen at air shows across the United States, the model features the classic yet modern red, white and blue RJ Gritter (RJG) color scheme.

Simple assembly

No glue is required for assembly, and the Decathlon RJG 1.2m is ready to fly in less time than it takes to charge a battery! And although the model is a handy size and fits in almost any vehicle when fully assembled, you can also remove the wing to make storage and transportation even easier. Thumb screws, self-connecting servo plugs and quick connectors on the wing struts ensure tool-free assembly.
