The Decathlon is widely regarded as one of the best aerobatic trainers in man-carrying aviation! Its iconic design is based on the Aeronca Champ and Citabria, but has been updated with inverted fuel and oil systems and a nearly symmetrical airfoil to easily fly negative figures and inverted flight. The E-flite® Decathlon RJG 1.2m is an everyday sized replica of the Decathlon that flies RJ Gritter (RJG). RJ has been a model airplane pilot for most of his life and began competing in national and international aerobatic competitions at the age of 16. His passion for RC aerobatics also led to a strong interest in man-carrying aerobatics. RJ designed a new color scheme for his Decathlon for the 2024 airshow season and was also involved in the development of this unique E-flite model that allows for both relaxed sport flying and aggressive aerobatics! The model features LED landing and navigation lighting as well as a variety of scale details to provide an authentic flying experience. It is aimed at both advanced pilots who want to improve their aerobatic skills and experienced pilots who want to focus on aggressive aerobatics. Digital servos with metal gears are installed on all control surfaces, while the model is equipped with a 3S and 4S compatible power system with a 45A Spektrum Avian Smart Lite ESC. The BNF Basic version is also equipped with an AR631 receiver to provide real-time telemetry data along with AS3X and SAFE Select technologies.

Overview

The E-flite Decathlon RJG 1.2m is one of the most powerful and handy models of the legendary aerobatic trainer! It is a replica of the Decathlon that RJ Gritter (RJG) flies at air shows in the United States and features a classic but modernized red, white and blue color scheme. Additionally, a variety of scale details include functional LED landing and navigation lights, wheel shoes and wing struts. The one-piece wing is easy to assemble and disassemble thanks to self-connecting servo connectors and knurled screws. Although the model is a handy size when assembled ready to fly and is easy to store and transport, the struts can be snapped in and out without the need for tools! Digital servos with metal gears and pushrods with ball heads provide precise and reliable linkage for classic and aggressive aerobatics. The 3S and 4S compatible power system features a 45A Spektrum™ Avian™ Smart Lite ESC and the BNF® Basic version is equipped with an AR631 receiver to provide real-time telemetry data along with AS3X® and optional SAFE® Select, including thrust reversing. All these details and features add up to a very practical and highly capable model that is a great choice for advanced and experienced pilots!

Exclusive technologies

The BNF® Basic version is equipped with the exclusive Spektrum™ AS3X® and SAFE® Select technologies. AS3X works behind the scenes to smooth out the effects of wind and turbulence to deliver a locked-in feel that makes it seem like you're flying a much larger airplane. The optional SAFE Select offers bank angle limits as well as automatic self-leveling that can be turned on and off at the touch of a button to make flying easier! And if you don't want to activate the SAFE Select feature, bind the receiver normally and only AS3X is active.

Spektrum Smart Technology

This Decathlon RJG 1.2m is equipped with an exclusive Spektrum™ Avian™ Smart Lite ESC that provides a variety of real-time telemetry data from the propulsion system, including motor RPM, battery voltage and more with Smart and non-Smart battery endash via compatible receivers and transmitters (including the AR631; in combination with Spektrum AirWare™ equipped transmitters including DX6e and 8e, DX6 G2/3 and 8 G2, DX9, NX6, 8 and 10, iX12, iX14 , iX20 and others).
It also has an optional engine dash/thrust reverse function that offers special ground handling and other features!

Versatile performance

The factory-installed brushless power system features a 45A Spektrum™ Avian™ Smart Lite ESC and a custom-tuned motor that delivers plenty of thrust on a 3S 2200mAh LiPo battery, or when combined with a 4S 3200mAh battery, delivers even faster airspeed and unlimited vertical climb performance without the need for modifications or upgrades.

Scale Features

Functional LED landing and navigation lights, wing struts, and wheel shoes are prototypical features that further enhance your experience with this model.

Like the original, which can be seen at air shows across the United States, the model features the classic, yet modern red, white, blue RJ Gritter (RJG) color scheme.

Simple assembly

No glue is required for final assembly, and you can have the Decathlon RJG 1.2m ready to fly in less time than it takes to charge a battery! And although the model is a handy size and fits fully assembled in almost any vehicle, you can also remove the wing to make storage and transportation even easier. Thumb screws, self-connecting servo plugs and quick connectors on the wing struts ensure tool-free assembly.
